The above words had quite an impact on my life and I try to live by them. Many years ago when I was just out of the army and very poor, I transferred from Monmouth College in NJ to the University of Hawaii. I borrowed my friend's student ID (they had youth fare back then) and got a half price ticket to Hawaii. The night before I left I stayed at a friend's house in NYC. We partied all night and in the morning I had to take a taxi-cab in order to make my flight. I only had a little money [about $30.00 (3000 yen) so I couldn't afford to leave the driver a tip. When arriving at the airport, I apologized to the driver for not being able to leave a tip. The driver started cursing at me and chased me into the airport building where a policeman stopped him. It was scary. I think he wanted to kill me. When I arrived in Honolulu, I had the address of a friend to stay with, but I got lost and there were no buses and I had two heavy suitcases. I had no choice but to take a taxi-cab using most of the little money I had left. When we arrived at my friend's house, I got my suitcases from the trunk of the taxi. When I paid the driver I held one suitcase in front of my face to protect me and started backing away as I profoundly apologized to him for not being able to afford to leave a tip. The driver smiled-- a warm tropical smile-- and said, "Hey brah, don't waste a worry."
